The Wake-Feast

Category: medium

Prerequisites: complete hymns_of_the_forge

A Table for the Dead

Every generation, after the Vigil and the Hymn, comes the Wake-Feast: one long table down the whole mound-line, a plate laid for every buried name, the living eating beside the dead. Maren has set the date. The sea provides first — start landing swordfish.

Objectives:

  • CATCH: raw_swordfish ×130

Rewards:

  • ✨ 60,000 Fishing XP
  • 5,500 gp

The First Firing of the Ovens

The feast-ovens haven't been lit in thirty years and smoke like offended dragons. Break them in gently — cook the first swordfish run for the order's tasting table.

Objectives:

  • COOK: raw_swordfish ×110

Rewards:

  • ✨ 50,000 Cooking XP
  • 5,500 gp

The Sleeper's Supper

The feast's signature heat is the old cooks' fire-cordial, crown of the dish they call 'the sleeper's supper.' The recipe survives and the cellar still is willing. Brew Stoker's Elixir for the sauce-kettles.

Objectives:

  • BREW: stokers_elixir ×12

Rewards:

  • ✨ 8,000 Brewing XP
  • 6,000 gp

The Tuna Fleets

Word of the feast spreads down-coast and the fisher-villages send their fleets to help — short-handed. Crew a boat and bring in the tuna run.

Objectives:

  • CATCH: raw_tuna ×150

Rewards:

  • ✨ 55,000 Fishing XP
  • 6,000 gp

Smokehouse Shifts

Half the catch must keep til feast-day, and the smokehouse never sleeps. Take the night shift at the racks — cook the tuna down for the cellars.

Objectives:

  • COOK: raw_tuna ×130

Rewards:

  • ✨ 48,000 Cooking XP
  • 6,500 gp

Pumpkins by the Cartload

The feast's centerpiece soup takes a cartload of pumpkins per table-length, and the table is a mile long. The valley farms pledged their surplus and promptly 'forgot'; the order's larder-right says otherwise. Collect the pledge, stall by stall.

Objectives:

  • THIEVE: farmer ×130

Rewards:

Grace Before Meat

No plate is laid at the wake-table before the ground under it is settled. Walk the mile of table-line and bury offerings at every span.

Objectives:

  • BURY: bones_big ×60

Rewards:

  • ✨ 7,000 Prayer XP
  • 7,000 gp

Timber for the Mile Table

A mile of table needs a forest of maple planking, and the wrights are already behind. Fell it — Tobin marks each trunk with chalk: 'for the feast.'

Objectives:

  • CHOP: Maple Logs ×160

Rewards:

  • ✨ 60,000 Woodcutting XP
  • 7,000 gp

The Cooking Fires

Feast-day minus two: the fire-pits along the table-line are lit and must burn steady til the last plate. Keep them fed with maple.

Objectives:

  • BURN: Maple Logs ×140

Rewards:

  • ✨ 14,000 Firemaking XP
  • 7,500 gp

The Deep-Water Run

The head of the table — where the barrow-saints' plates are laid — gets the best of the sea. One last deep-water run for swordfish, the biggest you can land.

Objectives:

  • CATCH: raw_swordfish ×150

Rewards:

  • Bones Bones ×100
  • ✨ 65,000 Fishing XP
  • 7,500 gp

A Blessing on the Kitchens

The head cook refuses to plate a single dish until the kitchens are blessed 'by someone the mounds actually listen to.' That's you now. Bury offerings under every hearth-stone and at every oven's mouth until she's satisfied.

Objectives:

  • BURY: bones_normal ×100

Rewards:

  • ✨ 6,000 Prayer XP
  • 8,000 gp
  • 💎 34 gems

The Saints' Portions

The head-of-table dishes are cooked last, best, and by you — the cook insists, and Maren backs her. Cook the deep-water swordfish for the saints' portions.

Objectives:

  • COOK: raw_swordfish ×130

Rewards:

  • ✨ 55,000 Cooking XP
  • 8,000 gp

Butter and Marrow

The order's feast-bread wants butter and marrow both, and the drover-camps promised their cull to the order seasons ago. See the herd's old and lame to a gentle end — nothing wasted, and every bone kept for the rite.

Objectives:

  • KILL: kill cow_1 ×70

Rewards:

The Poultry Yard

Roast fowl for the far tables — the poultry yard's surplus has been promised all season. See to the slaughter and keep the bones; even the smallest get the rite.

Objectives:

  • KILL: kill chicken_1 ×60

Rewards:

The Anglers' Toast

The fisher-fleets' tradition: no feast without Angler's Tonic to toast the drowned. The cellar still is yours for the batch. Brew it.

Objectives:

  • BREW: anglers_tonic ×12

Rewards:

  • ✨ 8,000 Brewing XP
  • 9,000 gp

The Last Nets

Feast-eve. The fleets make one final sweep so no cellar stands short, and every hand is wanted at the nets. Haul tuna til the holds are full.

Objectives:

  • CATCH: raw_tuna ×170

Rewards:

  • ✨ 60,000 Fishing XP
  • 9,000 gp

Every Plate Over Settled Ground

Night before the feast, you and Tobin walk the whole mile one last time, burying the final offerings under the lantern-light. 'A plate for every name,' he says, 'and rest under every plate.'

Objectives:

  • BURY: bones_normal ×130

Rewards:

  • ✨ 7,500 Prayer XP
  • 9,500 gp

The Wake-Feast

Feast-day. A mile of maple table under a mile of lantern-string; the living on the benches, the dead's plates steaming beside them; the forge-choir playing grace. You cook the last dishes as the sun goes down and the whole barrow-field glows. Maren stands, raises the first toast in thirty years, and names you — to the loudest cheer the mounds have ever heard — a full Keeper of the order.

Objectives:

  • COOK: raw_tuna ×150

Rewards:

  • ✨ 60,000 Cooking XP
  • 12,000 gp
  • 💎 40 gems
