DragonScape Idle compared with Melvor Idle, Idle Clans and Idlescape

People arriving here have usually played one of the other idle RPGs first, so this page sets DragonScape Idle beside the three it gets compared with most.

Facts about the other games were taken from their own wikis and store pages and were last checked on 21 September 2026; sources are listed at the bottom. They change, so check the originals before relying on anything here.

Melvor Idle

The best-known game in this category and the most direct comparison. It is also single-player, also skill-based, and its offline handling works the way this one does: it simulates the window you were away for rather than paying a flat bonus.

The differences that matter are commercial. Melvor's browser version is a demo, carrying 11 of its 24 skills, a smaller item and enemy list, and one game mode. The full game is a one-time $9.99 purchase with three $4.99 expansions on top. DragonScape Idle has no paid tier at all: the browser version is the whole game. Against that, Melvor is a far larger, far older and more polished game with a professional studio behind it, and its expansions push skills to level 120 where this game stops at 99.

Pick Melvor if you want the deepest version of this genre and do not mind paying for it. Pick this one if you want the whole thing free in a tab.

Idle Clans

A different design rather than a cheaper one. Idle Clans is a massively multiplayer game: clans, a global player market with a 1% sales tax, and a shared economy where what you gather has a price other players set. It runs from the app stores and Steam rather than in a browser, and it requires an account before you reach the game.

Its free-to-play line is drawn with optional one-time tokens rather than a single purchase, and those tokens do gate content: without a Premium membership token, Agility, Farming and Enchanting stop at level 30 out of 120. Its own wiki also notes every token can be bought with in-game gold on the player market, so the paid route is a shortcut rather than a wall.

Pick Idle Clans if the trading and the clan side is the point. Pick this one if you want to open a tab and play without an account, and you would rather the economy be yours alone.

Idlescape

Worth being clear about: Idlescape is not playable at the moment. Its live service ended in late 2025 and the site now advertises a rebuild with a Steam release planned for January 2027. Everything written about it elsewhere, this page included, describes the browser beta that ran until then: a free browser-based MMO with 15 skills, a marketplace with a 5% sales tax, a 12-hour offline cap that a subscription raised to 24, and an account requirement.

If you came here after its shutdown looking for something to play in a browser, that is the gap this game happens to sit in.

Where DragonScape Idle is genuinely different

  • The whole game is free and there is nothing to buy. Not a demo, not a free-to-play tier with a token shop. Every skill, quest, dungeon and item is reachable by playing.
  • No account, no download, no install. You can be playing in one click, and sign in later only if you want the save to follow you to another device.
  • Offline time is replayed rather than estimated. The game re-runs the window you missed with the same drop rolls and quest credit, so coming back can finish an objective or produce a rare item. Melvor does this too; most idle games do not.
  • The numbers are all public and machine-generated. Every stat page on this wiki is built from the game's own data files on each release, so nothing here can drift out of step with a balance patch.

Where it is behind

Worth saying plainly, because you will find out in an hour anyway. This is a solo-developed game in open beta, and it is younger and smaller than Melvor Idle and Idle Clans by a wide margin: fewer skills than either, a level 99 ceiling where both go to 120, no mobile app, no multiplayer of any kind, and balance that is still moving between releases. The item and monster icons are AI-generated images.
