Hymns of the Forge
Category: medium
Prerequisites: complete the_reliquary_road
The Cold Choir
Before the order buried its dead, it sang to them — from a forge. The forge-choir hammered hymns into votive iron, one strike per note, until the smith died and the anvils went quiet. Maren wants the choir rebuilt, and it starts with ore. Mine mithril from the ridge.
Objectives:
- MINE: Mithril Ore ×110
Rewards:
- ✨ 8,000
Mining XP - 5,000 gp
First Bars, First Notes
The old smith's hymnal is written in hammer-notation nobody alive can read — except, it turns out, the forge itself. Smelt mithril and listen: every bar rings a note of the first hymn.
Objectives:
- SMELT: Mithril Bar ×90
Rewards:
- ✨ 6,500
Smithing XP - 5,000 gp
Staves for the Shaft-Wrights
The choir's second voice is the fletcher's bench — arrow-shafts planed in rhythm. The bench wants seasoned yew. Fell it.
Objectives:
- CHOP: Yew Logs ×150
Rewards:
- ✨ 70,000
Woodcutting XP - 5,500 gp
The Fletcher's Verse
Tip, shaft, feather — the fletcher's verse repeats fifteen to the bundle. Craft mithril arrows until the second voice of the hymn holds steady.
Objectives:
- CRAFT: Mithril Arrow ×450
Rewards:
- ✨ 8,000
Fletching XP - 5,500 gp
The Deeper Seam
The hymnal's louder passages want a heavier metal. Adamantite runs below the mithril seam — deeper, meaner, worth it. Mine it.
Objectives:
- MINE: Adamantite Ore ×90
Rewards:
- ✨ 8,500
Mining XP - 6,000 gp
The Bass Line
Adamantite rings a full octave below mithril — the hymn's bass line. Smelt the bars and let the forge carry the low notes out across the mounds.
Objectives:
- SMELT: Adamantite Bar ×70
Rewards:
Bones ×90- ✨ 7,000
Smithing XP - 6,000 gp
The Smith's Blessing
Working the dead smith's forge, you've started leaving a small offering at his grave each dawn — and the fires light easier for it, Tobin swears. Make it a full rite: bury an offering for every smith in the order's yard, dawn by dawn, until the row of graves is settled.
Objectives:
- BURY: bones_normal ×90
Rewards:
- ✨ 5,000
Prayer XP - 6,500 gp
- 💎 30 gems
The Gilded Breastplate
The hymnal's centerpiece is a votive: a gilded breastplate, hung above the anvil so every hymn reflects off gold. Forge and gild it as the old smith wrote it.
Objectives:
- SMELT: (G) Mithril Platebody ×1
Rewards:
- ✨ 9,000
Smithing XP - 6,500 gp
The High Descant
Above the bass, the descant: adamantite arrowheads struck fine and bright. Fletch adamantite arrows until the third voice sits true over the other two.
Objectives:
- CRAFT: Adamant Arrow ×300
Rewards:
- ✨ 9,000
Fletching XP - 7,000 gp
The Smith's Own Rite
You find the old smith's unfinished last work under a drop-cloth: his own grave-goods, half-forged. Finish what the choir owes him — bury the great bones of his ancestors' line with the full rite.
Objectives:
- BURY: bones_big ×60
Rewards:
- ✨ 7,000
Prayer XP - 7,000 gp
Coal for the Long Firing
The hymnal's final movement is a night-long firing that must not gutter. That means coal — a winter's worth in one week. Dig.
Objectives:
- MINE: Coal Ore ×200
Rewards:
- ✨ 9,000
Mining XP - 7,500 gp
Armor for the Choir-Guards
Word of a singing forge travels, and the Hollowed Hand hates nothing more than the order's music. The choir gets guards; the guards get adamantite plate. Forge it.
Objectives:
- SMELT: Adamantite Platebody ×2
Rewards:
- ✨ 8,000
Smithing XP - 7,500 gp
Interruption
They come on the third night of rehearsal — risen dead, driven at the forge to silence it. The choir plays on. You handle the percussion.
Objectives:
- KILL: kill skeleton_1 ×50
Rewards:
Big Bones ×35- 8,000 gp
The Rune-True Note
The hymn's final note is written for runite — 'the metal that holds a note forever.' Smelting it will take everything the forge and you have. Reach it.
Objectives:
- SMELT: Runite Bar ×40
Rewards:
- ✨ 10,000
Smithing XP - 8,000 gp
Quivers for the Watchtowers
The mound-line watchtowers want stocked quivers before winter — the attack proved why. Fletch adamantite arrows for every tower rack.
Objectives:
- CRAFT: Adamant Arrow ×350
Rewards:
- ✨ 10,000
Fletching XP - 8,500 gp
The Night-Watch Rite
The attackers' bones wait under sailcloth by the forge door. They were parishioners once too, Maren reminds the choir — and the rite is sung to hammer-rhythm as you bury them.
Objectives:
- BURY: bones_big ×70
Rewards:
- ✨ 7,500
Prayer XP - 8,500 gp
Voice of the Forge
The choir-master's stall has stood empty since the old smith died. The order votes without debate: it's yours. Before the first full performance, fire the forge-hearths down the whole line — the hymn opens with every chimney singing.
Objectives:
- BURN: Yew Logs ×120
Rewards:
- ✨ 15,000
Firemaking XP - 9,000 gp
- 💎 34 gems
The Forge-Hymn Entire
On midwinter's eve the forge-choir performs the hymn entire — bass, verse, descant and the rune-true note, hammered out over the barrows until the ward-posts hum in sympathy. The mounds answer with stillness. The Hollowed Hand answers with silence of a worse kind: somewhere, it has stopped trying to interrupt, and started digging.
Objectives:
- SMELT: Runite Bar ×60
Rewards:
- ✨ 12,000
Smithing XP - 11,000 gp
- 💎 38 gems
